It is what remains of a WWII lend-lease airfield that was built in 1942, before there was even a road. The runway is owned by BLM and operated by Forestry as an occasional fire fighting base, and the village of Tanacross is nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">The track location is marked in Google Maps under the Alaska Sports Car Club, since they also use it.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d7153.894784658033!2d-143.32658616025276!3d63.36793432617049!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0x96cad478e41db4c1!2sAlaska%20Sports%20Car%20Club%20Tanacross%20Track!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1643910298680!5m2!1sen!2sus\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-637e3b91633e478658ca1ab085ae3701 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">The track is&#8230; a little rough. The pavement is what the Army laid down in the 1940s, and it shows. Surprisingly, this doesn&#8217;t pose any great problem for our riding needs. We lay out a course marked with cones that, for the most part, steer riders around the worst bits of the pavement, and the course is visibly worn into the surface. Apex cones are attached to large rubber bases so they&#8217;re less likely to be flung too far if a rider runs them over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Requirements\"><br>Gear Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">All riders are required to have a helmet, full leathers (2 piece is fine, zip-together is recommended), boots, and gloves. Some textiles are acceptable on approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-859416a4abd8f8a2c0cc16856f34898e wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What to Bring<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3c77a16f6e4aae974e8817a3b4f908e9 wp-block-paragraph\">Fuel<br>Water and food<br>Canopy or shelter<br>Tools and spare parts<br>Tire pressure gauge<br>Generator, if needed<br>Warm clothing and rain gear<br>Camping supplies, if staying overnight<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a822b06e12e1592c4ea90da526a28f1f wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For New Riders<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2976e25f16f32e453a79ca01c53d4dca wp-block-paragraph\">New riders are welcome. Arrive early, ask questions, and make sure your motorcycle and gear are ready before tech inspection. Please stay clear of the track, hot pit, and restricted areas.
